Combat

These are skills which combat is their primary focus. These skills can be used as attack rolls, or otherwise assist a character in the middle of combat.

Aiming

Aiming is done with ranged weaponry such as bows and firearms in order to stabilize their aim, and ensure their shot hits the mark. It can also be used to position a shot that would be difficult, such as when there's obstacles in the way of the shot. Aiming uses Dexterity as its ability score.

Axe

Slashing people with an axe is a skill as old as civilization itself - although it is also used for chopping firewood and the like too. This skill is used when attacking with weapons from the Axe category. Axe uses Strength as its ability score.

Blindfighting

Blindfighting involves being able to determine and where an individual is and attempting to attack them, despite being unable to see them either due to your own eyesight or due to the opponent being invisible. Blindfighting uses Intuition as its ability score.

Bow

Shooting with a bow is an art humans have made a sport of, not only using it for hunting but also for war and for archery competitions. This skill is used when attacking with weapons from the Bow and Crossbow categories. Bow uses Dexterity as its ability score.

Cudgel

Blunt weapons - hammers, clubs, and other bashing tools fall under this category and are used for cracking skulls all the same. This skill is used for attacking with weapons from the Club and Hammer categories. Cudgel uses Strength as its ability score.

Heavy Weaponry

Weapons locked to the ground and unable to be truly picked up and carried, these usually encompass siege weaponry and mounted guns from howitzers to stationary machine guns. This skill is used for attacking with weapons from the Siege and Heavy categories. Heavy Weaponry uses Dexterity as its ability score.

Polearm

Long staffs with a blade usually affixed to the end, the usage of polearms date back to early man's hunting of animals, and is now a common tool for war. This skill is used for attacking with weapons from the Staff and Polearm categories. Polearm uses Strength as its ability score.

Rifle

Long firearms usually used for medium to long range engagements, rifles tend to either have good accuracy or high rates of fire - though some have both. Sniper rifles are used for incredibly long-range engagements. This skill is used for attacking with weapons from the Rifle and Sniper categories. Rifle uses Dexterity as its ability score.

Pistol

Small, hand-held firearms which have evolved a long way from the days of flintlocks and matchlocks. Pistols are easily concealable, and make for good sidearms - even among citizens as the kick is often easy enough for untrained shooters to land at least a good hit or two. This skill is used for attacking with weapons from the Pistol category. Pistol uses Dexterity as its ability score.

Shotgun

Launching many small pellets (usually), shotguns have high stopping power but usually sacrifice their ability to work well at range by being so incredibly powerful. More pellets hitting the target means more of a chance of shredding them dead. This skill is used for attacking with weapons from the Shotgun category. Shotgun uses Dexterity as its ability score.

Sword

Of all of the forms of melee combat, none is as revered as the art of swordplay, its nobility ingrained in the individuals who practice it and those who see it in action. Unlike polearms, swords have a higher learning curve and are often only used by militaries due to practice and techniques required. This skill is used for attacking with weapons from the Dagger and Sword categories. Sword uses Strength as its ability score.

Throwing

Most weapons aren't made to be thrown, but for those that are, being accurate with throwing such a weapon is often a separate skill entirely from using it in martial combat. This skill is used for attacking with weapons that are thrown from one's hand. Throwing uses Dexterity as its ability score.

Unarmed

Fighting with fists is common in pub brawls and minor squabbles where actually killing one another isn't the aim, however some are skilled (or reckless) enough to use their fists in combat against guns and blades. Whether or not they survive, is another story…if they do, chances are, people will know not to take them lightly. This skill is used for attacking with unarmed attacks; punches, kicks, headbutts, tackles, and other techniques require Unarmed. Unarmed uses Strength as its ability score.
